Crispy Chicken Fritters coated with refined flour (maida). An absolutely delicious starter. It’s sure to make you win a lot of hearts. 🙂
This evening folks at home were deciding to go out for dinner. What occurred to me was why don’t have the restaurant style food at the comforts of home with a nice drink and a classic movie. Sounds interesting, ain’t it! Okay, then it was time for me to wear my apron and get inside my kitchen. So, the menu was Chicken Pakoras/Pakodas (Fritters) and Potato Fries for starters and Chilly Chicken with Veg Fried Rice for the main-course.
This Chicken Pakoda/Pakora (Fritters) recipe is a great hit at home. Here’s the recipe for you. Very simple and quick!
Preparation Time 15-20 minutes
Cooking Time 20-25 minutes
Servings 4
Main Ingredients Chicken & Refined Flour (Maida)
Course Starter
Level Of Cooking Medium
Ingredients
- Chicken Breast/Boneless Chicken 600 grams
- Refined Flour (Maida) 1 cup
- Onion 1 medium finely chopped
- Green Chillies 2 finely chopped
- Ginger 1 inch piece finely chopped
- Garlic 4 cloves finely chopped
- Red Chilli Powder 1 teaspoon
- Black Pepper Powder 1 teaspoon
- Soy Sauce 1 tablespoon
- Chaat Masala (Magic Ingredient) 1 teaspoon
- Cooking Oil Sufficient for deep frying
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Dice boneless chicken into 1 – 1.5 inch pieces. Keep aside.
Step 2
To make the batter – Add 1/2 cup water to 1 cup refined flour. Stir well. See the consistency. It should not be too thick or too thin (Add more or less water basis that). Now add soy sauce, chopped onion, green chilli, ginger, garlic, red chilli powder, black pepper powder and salt generously. Whisk well.
Step 3
Dip diced chicken in the batter and mix well. Leave it for 5 mins.
Step 4
Heat sufficient oil in a kadhai (pan) and deep-fry the chicken pieces on medium heat, till crisp and golden brown from all sides. Take the chicken pieces out on a tissue paper so that the excess oil is drained.
Step 5
Now sprinkle the magic ingredient which is the Chat Masala on the Chicken Pakoras/Pakodas (Fritters) and serve hot with Chilli Sauce, Tabasco Sauce or Schezwan Sauce. A cold-drink on the side makes this starter complete.
Tip: You can make Paneer (Cottage Cheese) Pakoras/Pakodas (Fritters) with the same recipe by just replacing Chicken pieces with Paneer (Cottage Cheese) Cubes. While this recipe goes well with Refined Flour, you can even use gram flour (besan) when making Paneer (Cottage Cheese) Pakoras/Pakodas (Fritters).
