I never imagined how a savoury dish would taste delicious without onion and garlic. But it wasn’t too late when I found that out, as my Mom cooked some dishes with no onion or garlic at home and they tasted divine… to the extent that I took extra servings.
Here is the recipe of a full of flavour dish Malai Paneer (Cottage Cheese in Cream Sauce) – Jain Style for you all this week. Relish it!

Ingredients
- Cottage Cheese 250 grams cut into 1 inch cubes
- Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
- Cloves 2
- Cooking Oil 2 tablespoons
- Black cardamom 1
- Green cardamom 1
- Ginger paste 2 teaspoons
- Tomato 2 medium ground
- Diced Bell Pepper (Capsicum) 1 (any colour – I used red)
- Green chillies 2 ground with tomato
- Coriander Leaves a few sprigs (broken)
- Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
- Fresh Cream 1 cup
- Milk 1 tablespoon
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Heat oil in a pan (kadhai), add green cardamom, black cardamom, cumin seeds and cloves and sauté for a minute. Add ground tomatoes and ginger paste and sauté for four to five minutes.
Step 2
Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder and mix well. Add salt, bell pepper (capsicum) and cook further for five to seven minutes. Add cream and mix well.
Step 3
Add the Cottage Cheese cubes and stir for two-three minutes. Add the tablespoon of milk now and give a nice stir. Remove Cloves and Cardamoms (if you find any). Sprinkle coriander leaves on the dish.
Step 4
You can serve Malai Paneer (Cottage Cheese in Cream Sauce) hot with chapati or plain paratha (Indian breads) or steamed rice and relish with your family and friends.

It looks so good! I’ve been trying to cook with out onion recently, but I just can’t go without garlic!!! I’ll have to try your recipe out x
