Chicken Ki Tikki (Spiced Chicken Patty) – Shack Saturdays Special

Chicken Ki Tikki - Indian Curry ShackMy better half wanted to eat Chicken Ki Tikki (Spiced Chicken Patty) last week when we were travelling. The other day when he got back from work I surprised him with Chicken ki Tikki with Red Chilli Garlic Chutney/Dip and he was super excited. We completely loved the patties and I am so sure these are going to tickle your tastebuds too. So here’s this Shack Saturdays Special recipe which is quite versatile… you can enjoy it just as it is or have it in a burger or sandwich, dice and make Souvlaki (a Greek recipe coming soon on the blog), and there could be various combinations.

Let me take you through the easy recipe;

Preparation Time 20-25 minutes
Cooking Time 10-15 minutes
Servings 4-5
Main Ingredients Minced Chicken
Course Appetizer or Main-course
Level Of Cooking Medium

Ingredients

  • Minced Chicken  300 grams (I used Chicken Fillet and hammered it to mince it as I could not get Minced Chicken in the market)
  • All Purpose Flour (Maida)  1/2 cup
  • Egg  1
  • Onion  1 large finely chopped
  • Coriander Leaves  2 tablespoons chopped
  • Green Chillies 2 chopped (you may have more or less as per your preference)
  • Chaat Masala or Black Salt  1 teaspoon
  • Black Pepper Powder  1 teaspoon
  • Red Chilli Powder  1 teaspoon
  • Cooking Oil  Sufficient for shallow frying 8-10 Chicken Ki Tikkis (Spiced Chicken Patties)
  • Salt  to taste

Method

Step 1

Mash the minced chicken with some salt and keep aside.

Take a big bowl, put half cup all purpose (plain) flour in it. Add 1 egg, chopped onions, coriander leaves, green chillies, chaat masala (or black salt), black pepper powder, red chilli powder and salt to taste and mix. The Chicken Ki Tikki (Spiced Chicken Patty) mix is now ready. (Add a tablespoon or two of water if the mix is too thick.) Let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 3
Divide the mixture into 8-10 equal portions and make balls out of each. (Grease your hands with some cooking oil while making the chicken balls as this will help make smooth balls and the mix will not stick to your hands.) Flatten the balls into round patties.

Heat a nonstick griddle (tava) or pan. Sprinkle some cooking oil on it. Put 3-5 patties (depending on the size of your pan) on oil and cook till the bottom surface turns golden brown. Then flip each of them upside down and sprinkle some oil around their edges and cook until the second side also turns golden brown. You can keep on turning them after intervals to have a nice golden brown colour. Cook on medium to low flame to ensure the chicken is cooked well.

Step 5
Tranfer the prepared Chicken Ki Tikkis (Spiced Chicken Patties) on a serving plate/tray and serve hot with Red Chilli Garlic Chutney or Mint & Coriander Chutney. It is a fantastic recipe for parties too. Just keep the Chicken spiced mix ready in your refrigerator and take out the mix 20 minutes before cooking and you are good to go.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
