Here’s the good old Masala Sandwich. Made with spiced potato stuffing. Serve with Tomato Sauce or Mint & Coriander Chutney.
It has been a favourite breakfast or brunch recipe at home. It’s so easy to make and so delicious.
Preparation Time 20-25 minutes
Cooking Time 10-15 minutes

Main Ingredients Potatoes & Bread
Course Breakfast/Snack
Level Of Cooking Medium
Ingredients
- Boiled Potatoes 4 medium
- Bread Slices 12 (or more)
- Onion 1 large finely chopped
- Coriander Leaves 2 tablespoons chopped
- Green Chillies 2 chopped
- Chaat Masala or Black Salt 1 teaspoon
- Black Pepper Powder 1 teaspoon
- Red Chilli Powder 1 teaspoon
- Salted Butter Sufficient for 6-8 Sandwiches
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Mash the boiled potatoes. Add chopped onions, coriander leaves, green chillies, chaat masala (or black salt), black pepper powder, red chilli powder and salt to taste and mix. The Masala Sandwich stuffing is now ready. Keep aside.
Step 2
Take a slice of bread and spread some of the stuffing on one side. Top it up with a little butter (optionally, you can top it up with some grated cheese too). Cover with a bread slice. Do the same for rest of the bread slices.
Step 3
Spread butter on top of the slices. In a sandwich maker/toaster/griddle (tava), place the sandwich with the buttered side facing down. Now spread some butter on the top side facing you. (Be careful if your sandwich maker/grill/griddle is too hot, then you can spread the butter once the sandwiches are ready.)
Step 4
Toast/grill the sandwiches till they are golden and crisp. Serve with Tomato Sauce or Mint & Coriander Chutney.
(Tip: You can keep the spiced potato stuffing ready a night before and can make quick sandwiches the next morning for breakfast or pack them in your kid’s lunch box.)
Relish your Palate!
